Day 1 - ARRIVE NAIROBI & FLY TO SAMBURU GAME RESERVE
Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. After clearing customs and immigration formalities, you will be transferred to Wilson airport for your connecting flight to Samburu Game Reserve. On arrival at the Samburu airstrip, you will be met at the airstrip and transferred to the camp.
Larsens Camp is a small, luxurious tented camp set in lush lawns on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River in the heart of Samburu National Reserve. Named in honour of safari pioneer Eric Larsen, the camp offers a rustic step back in time to the days of the earliest safaris, with all the public 'rooms' under green canvas. The 17 en suite tents are simply but elegantly furnished, with private wooden decks overlooking the rushing river, where elephant, buffalo and a multitude of antelope species come regularly to drink. Larsens offers a surprising degree of comfort, with hot showers, complimentary aperitifs, and first-class dining. In the bar, Eric's old cabin trunks and pith helmets help you to imagine yourself back to the earliest days of safari - while you play backgammon or chess on one of his original boards.
Larsens Camp - Full Board - 3 nights
DAYS 2 and 3 - SPEND TWO FULL DAYS IN SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE
Two full days to enjoy the various activities offered at the camp.
Samburu National Reserve (225 sq km) offers what is arguably Kenya's greatest - and least changed - encounter with the wild Africa of yesteryear. This harsh, savagely beautiful wilderness depends on the steady flow of the Uaso Nyiro River for its existence. The river waters a wide variety of animal species not found south of the Equator, including the majestic Beisa oryx, the reticulated giraffe, the thin-striped Grevy's zebra, and the 'giraffe-necked' gerenuk antelope, which stands on its hind legs to feed. Elephant, buffalo, lion and leopard can all be seen along the river, and the 400-plus species of birds are positively spectacular. Together with neighbouring Buffalo Springs and Shaba National Reserves, this area comprises 844 sq km of protected semi-desert land. This is the home of the Samburu Tribe, cousins of the Maasai, who share the same nomadic, cattle-herding existence, and an even stricter adherence to their age-old rites and customs.
Larsens Camp - Full Board - 3 nights
DAY 4 - FLY TO MAASAI MARA
After a leisurely breakfast take a scheduled flight to the Masai Mara, one of Africa's greatest parks.
On landing at the airstrip, your driver/guide will meet you. Take a short game drive en route to your camp. You may be rewarded with sightings of elephant, buffalo, giraffe, hippopotamus and a host of other plains game. Tonight, join fellow guests for cocktails, followed by an elegant dinner.
Sanctuary Olonana is a small exclusive camp located on a private stretch of the Mara River, at the foot of the impressive Siria Escarpment. Accommodation is in fourteen huge canvas pavilions with en-suite bathrooms, floor to ceiling mosquito netting, solar lighting and large verandas overlooking the river where the hippos wallow. Each tent features a private veranda for game viewing, reading or simply absorbing the magical scenery around you. The main dining room and veranda also command views over the Mara River and offer the perfect setting for after dinner star gazing. There is a swimming pool and our mini-spa is a treat. Here, in the middle of the African bush, guests can experience traditional African remedies alongside French marine therapies from Thalgo.
A wide range of activities are offered including game drives, bush walks, sundowners and bush meals. Olonana works closely with a local Maasai village, and visitors to the village get an insight into the way of life of the Maasai Tribe. You can visit the adjacent Maasai village and learn more about their traditional lifestyle.
Conservation is integral to everything, and at Olonana an innovative wetlands system allows for used water to be recycled naturally before it is returned to the environment. Our tree-planting project gives guests an opportunity to plant a tree and leave a positive mark on a piece of Africa.
Sanctuary Olonana - Full Board - 3 nights
DAYS 5 and 6 - SPEND TWO FULL DAYS IN MAASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE
You have the next two days to enjoy game viewing as you venture out in open 4X4 vehicles led by your expert Olonana driver/guide. A wide range of activities are offered at Olonana, and your day can be as active or as leisurely as you wish. Take a morning bush walk with an armed ranger, or enjoy sundowners in the evening or even dinner under the stars in the middle of the African bush. During one of your mornings in the Mara you may choose to go on a hot air balloon ride (additional cost) floating above the game-dotted plains.
The jewel in Africa's crown, Maasai Mara is host to the most spectacular array of wildlife. Her 1,510 square kilometers of open savannah, woodlands and tree-lined rivers creates an eco-system which supports huge numbers of bird and mammal species. The escarpment on the western border of the park and the acacia dotted plains create scenery of stunning beauty. Lion are found in abundance throughout the park as are elephant, giraffe, a variety of gazelle species and zebra. Cheetah and leopard are also regularly seen and, if lucky, you may also find rhino. Game viewing is never dull in the Mara, and patience is often rewarded with unique sightings: a pride of lion stalking their prey; a solitary leopard retrieving its kill from the high branches of an acacia tree; male wildebeest sparring to attract females into their harem; or even a herd of elephant protecting their young from opportunistic predators. The annual wildebeest migration traditionally is present in the Mara from July-October, and at this time nature's dramas unfold before your very eyes at every turn. As well as wildlife, many members of the colourful Maasai Tribe may be seen around the borders of the park - morans (warriors) loping across the plains, young boys herding goats, or elders grouped under a tree discussing matters of the day.
Sanctuary Olonana - Full Board - 3 nights
DAY 7 - FLY MARA/NAIROBI - DAYROOM - DEPART

Upon arrival at Wilson Airport you will be transferred to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your international departure flight. A day-room will be provided if your international flight is scheduled to depart late evening.
