Belmond Andean Explorer is a luxury train that transports up to 48 passengers through Peru in peerless style. A selection of one- and two-night itineraries journey between Cusco, Puno and Arequipa, taking in natural wonders such as Lake Titicaca and Colca Canyon en-route. Sister to the celebrated Belmond Hiram Bingham train, your time aboard promises to be every bit as inspiring as your off-board moments of discovery. The journey starts with the immediate surroundings - a place to calm the senses, enable a new state of ‘slow living’ and relaxation whilst connecting with nature. Colours and textures are inspired by Peruvian nature - soft Ivory Alpaca tones, Andean slate grays and woven textures and handicrafts - inspirations from the interior designer Inge Moor, The Gallery, London.

LOUNGE CAR - Gather together new-found friends and take a seat in the Lounge Car. A medium grand piano sets the musical tone as you discuss your day’s adventures. With a refreshing drink from the bar in hand and sensational passing scenery as a backdrop, it’s the ideal spot to weave your own spellbinding story. 

OBSERVATION CAR - The Observation Car is the ultimate spot to unwind and let the world pass you by. Make new friends and enjoy the enchanting views while sipping on a Pisco Sour from the bar. Breathe in the fresh Andean air from the open deck as the train meanders through breathtaking landscapes.

DINING CARS -  Fresh, colourful and seasonal dishes using locally sourced ingredients are served in the two elegant dining carriages. Menus are skillfully designed by our chefs from Belmond Hotel Monasterio. Refined Andean flavours, served with sophisticated flare, against a backdrop of stunning scenery - Belmond Andean Explorer promises a feast for all the senses. All ingredients are locally-sourced from the Andes, reflecting the scenery through which you travel. Every journey includes lunch and dinner each day. Delicious breakfasts are the ideal way to prepare for a day of discovery, while an irresistible afternoon tea is the perfect pick-me-up as the day goes on.

PERUVIAN HIGHLANDS
Cusco – Lake Titicaca – Arequipa

Embark on the ultimate Peruvian escape and journey from Cusco to Arequipa in style, visiting charming Puno and the majestic Lake Titicaca. TOURS each day uncover the hidden gems of this fascinating land. The Peruvian Highlands journey departs every Thursday morning.

Day 1
Board the Belmond Andean Explorer train in Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca empire. Settle down and unwind in your luxurious cabin as the train begins its journey southeast towards Puno. Savour your first lunch on board in one of the elegant dining cars. Refined Andean specialties are served with contemporary flair. After, disembark to visit Raqch’i. Once an important control point for the Incas, it is today a fascinating archaeological site brimming with history. Return to the train just in time for tea. Soak up the sensational sunset over La Raya Mountain range before preparing yourself for an elegant dinner on board. Afterwards, perhaps head to the bar car and chat with your fellow travellers as the train continues to Lake Titicaca, where it will stable for the evening.

Day 2
Awake early to catch the breathtaking sunrise across Lake Titicaca, before enjoying a delicious breakfast on board. Today’s tours explore the eclectic beauty and rich diversity of life on Lake Titicaca, the largest lake in South America and home to many islands. First you’ll take a traditional boat ride out to the Uros Islands, stunning man-made lands carefully created from woven reeds that are constantly being replenished. Continue on to Taquile island, a beautiful island with a way of life barely touched by time. Enjoy a private lunch on Collata Beach, with demonstrations from traditional dancers and artisanal workers. Return to the train for tea as your journey continues on to Arequipa. In the afternoon take the opportunity to disembark and find out more about this stunning city, considered one of the most important settlements in Peru. Return to the train for a final delicious dinner, before retiring to your cabin for a restful night.

Day 3
Enjoy breakfast before setting off on an early-morning excursion to the spellbinding, rugged scenery of Lake Lagunillas. Afterwards visit Sumbay Caves, home to fascinating cave paintings that are estimated to be almost 8,000 years old. Return to the train for lunch as the trains continues to the Baroque city of Arequipa. Here we bid farewell as you disembark, either for a panoramic city tour or for your transfer to the airport. Please note: You may choose to leave the train early at Cañahuas and continue on to explore Colca Canyon. A sweeping area of breathtaking beauty and one of the world’s deepest canyons, you’ll spot countless examples of Inca and Pre-Inca architecture alongside alpacas, eagles and the mighty Andean condor. ANDEAN PLAINS AND ISLANDS OF DISCOVERY
Arequipa – Lake Titicaca – Cusco

Travel from Arequipa to Cusco in unforgetable style. Savour the unforgettable indulgence of the Belmond Andean Explorer train as you are whisked through Peru’s most spectacular destinations, including the spellbinding Lake Titicaca. The Andean Plains and Islands of Discovery journey departs every Saturday night.

Day 1
Board the train in the Baroque city of Arequipa. Take some time to get comfortable in your cabin and acclimatize to the indulgent atmosphere of the train as you begin your journey towards Puno. Then take your seat in one of the elegant dining cars for your first dinner on board. Relax and savour refined Andean dishes served with contemporary flair. After dinner, why not head to the bar car and enjoy a cocktail as you get to know your fellow travellers.

Day 2
Awake early for a spellbinding experience as you witness the sunrise across Lake Titicaca. Breakfast is served on board - the perfect set up for a day full of adventure. This afternoon we explore Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. The beautiful lake is home to many diverse islands, each boasting a unique way of life. First we take a traditional boat to Uros, a man-made island artfully constructed from interwoven reeds which are constantly being replenished. The people who live on the island use the same reeds to create homes, ships and tools. Continue your exploration to Taquile Island, notable for its stunning agricultural terraces. The people here follow a social code that has been barely touched by time, and their handwoven fabrics are regarded as the best in Peru. Enjoy lunch at Collata Beach, followed by a performance from local dancers and a demonstration of artisans at work. Return to the station at the lake for a delicious afternoon tea. Board the train and relax as the journey continues on to Cusco. As evening descends enjoy another tempting dinner in the dining carriage.

Day 3
Wake to a delicious breakfast, accompanied by stunning views as the train sets off from Marangani. Along the way, disembark to visit Raqch’i. Once an important Inca settlement, today this fascinating archaeological site boasts many architectural gems. All too soon we arrive at Cusco, the former capital of the Inca empire. Bid farewell to your crew and disembark for your onward travel arrangements.
